Space Walk Of Fame 2 Mile and 8K
The Space Walk of Fame 8K and 2 mile run was a huge success! 219 runners were treated to a wonderful morning of running for the finale of the Space Coast Runner of the Year and Titusville Racing Series events. Race time weather was calm and sunny, with temps approaching 69 degrees. Race director Marty Winkel beautifully orchestrated the race on the 8k double loop course that wound its way through the nicely shaded, historical streets of Titusville, eventually culminating in an exciting finish at Space View Park.

A kid’s ¼, ½ and 1 mile ribbon run was offered for children 10 years and younger. All finishers received ribbons. By the looks of these speedy youngsters, the health of Space Coast Runners will be secure for many years to come.
Soon after the races, the awards ceremony was held just off the water at the stunning Space View Park. Numerous raffled goodies were in the offering, along with the standard overall and age group awards.
Mike Wasson and Jessica Crate took the overall wins. Jessica ran an impressive time of 29 minutes, placing her third overall! Art Anderson and Robin Hernandez managed to edge out the competition and grab the Master’s Award.
And finally many thanks to the volunteers for helping with the 30th Space Walk of Fame 8K!

Dino Dash 3K
During the early hours of March 8th Brevard Zoo was a buzz of activity in preparation for Running Zone's 4th race of the 2007-2008 Running Series. The Dino Dash 3K helped kick off Brevard Zoo's opening of Planet Dinosaur, an interactive exhibit featuring thirteen robotic and life size dinosaurs that runs through May 11th.

The 1.8 mile course took participants behind the scenes, through the zoo and Dino Trail. Runners and walkers were treated to special appearances by Dinkum the Dingo, Maggie the Deer, Ollie the Black Throated Monitor and many more of the zoo's animals
Over 630 runners and walkers toed the line at 7:30AM to kick off the event. Two athletes from Holy Trinity's Episcopal Academy took the first place wins. Kyle Cooke crossed the line in 9:15 and Kayla Hale in 10:10. Mike Wasson and Cathy Friedel managed to secure the Master's title. The zoo's Executive Director, Keith Winsten, also known as the Bandit, managed a time of 15:36. Not bad for someone who considers himself a jogger. Congratulations to everyone who finished the race!
A big thank you to the volunteers, Running Zone staff, Brevard Zoo staff and animals, and participants for making the 2nd annual 3K at the zoo a huge success. Mark your calendars for March 7th, 2009 - the 3rd annual 3K run at the zoo!

Sponsor Spotlights
AirTran Airways is a Fortune 1000 company that offer passenger more than 700 affordable, daily flights to 55 destinations throughout the United States and is currently dominating the top spot for the 2008 Airline Quality Rating. (AirTran.com)
Next time you get online to make flight arrangements think about flying AirTran Airways, a proud sponsor of Space Coast Runners, Inc. Annual Meeting and Runner of the Year Celebration Dinner. AirTran provided a set of travel certificates valid for roundtrip coach class airfare to any of their domestic destinations. The certificates are valued at $500 per person!
To wrap up the 38th Annual Meeting and SCR dinner Carol Ball, our president, announced the lucky winner of the featured and coveted door prize. Michael Ellison made a dash to the front when he heard his name called to accept his prize. This fine young man agreed to take his escort for the evening, his mother, on a much deserved trip.
Nestle Waters of North America heritage began with Perrier® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water in 1976. Today they distribute 15 of the country’s best known bottled water brands (www.nestle-watersna.com).
One of the well known Nestle brands of bottled water is our local Zephyrhills water. Nestle was very generous with their charitable donation to Space Coast Runners, Inc. The gentleman we worked with at the corporate office was responsible for supplying the NYC marathon and after running his calculation to supply two of the ROY series SCR races we ended up with two huge palettes of bottled water which was thoroughly enjoyed at the Eye of the Dragon 10K in March and Space Walk of Fame 8K in April. We also quenched our thirst at the SCR Runner of the Year Celebration Dinner with Zephyrhills bottled water.
Space Coast Runners, Inc. is fortunate to have received these generous charitable donations from two quality organizations, AirTran Airways and Nestle Waters of North America.
