Jingle Bell 5K
The Jingle Bells 2 mile Run took place in Satellite Beach Saturday night, December 15th. The Running Zone crew managed to pull off a wonderful event featuring champion chip timing, yummy homemade cookies, pictures with Santa and a funny looking green gecko (courtesy of Running Zone) and almost twice as many participants as last year! Over 812 people completed this unique 2 mile race that takes you through one of the most holiday decorated streets in the county. Thank you to those folks who light up our local run and cheer runners on. A big thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this event a success!
You have to hand it to Jessica Crate, she appears to excel at any distance. This talented runner won top honors in a time of 11:08 and took 14th place overall. If you do the math, that is 5:33 pace/per mile. On the male side, John Culver took the win in 10 minutes flat. Our master's winners were Cathy Freidel in 12:37 and Doug Butler in 10:38. Congratulations to everyone who finished the 2 mile run.

Fall Into Winter
The 2nd Space Coast Runners series race Fall into Winter 5K took place in Cocoa Beach on October 20th, 2007. Over 130 brave runners showed up for the well organized event. The 8AM scenic beach start in front of Coconuts consisted of shoed and barefoot runners and discussion of where best to run in the sand. Unlike last year everyone who wore sneakers managed to keep them on their feet. The weather was nice enough to behave, but a slight wind coming from the SW might have prevented a runner from obtaining a “beach PR”. Congratulations to Greg DeStafano and Jessica Crate for taking the top male and female overall win and Art Anderson and Jackie Clifton for taking the Master’s title. If you missed this beach run or are anxious to do another, there is a 2 and 4 miler race, the Sun ‘n Fun Run, coming up on November 3rd at 9:00AM.
